Use of Conventions/Social Groups

'Sota Sports' utilizes many of the conventions used in sports magazines. The main concepts and layouts used in this magazine were based on Sports Illustrated, since they are a renown sports magazine that have a very clear message and style that screams sports. For instance, the cover. On our cover, the Onky font was used because it was similar to that of a sports team name font or jersey number. This helped to make it clear that it was a sports magazine, versus using say calligraphy which would not give off this effect. Then pictures of the sport or athlete is used as the cover photo, so a picture of a soccer player was used in order to show that the magazine edition is about soccer. Even the table of contents derived some of its characteristics from The magazine itself is also targeted to certain groups of people. Since it is based around high school sports, students attending local schools are most likely to view them. Also, alumni of the schools, teachers, coaches, even recruiters. This magazine is meant for anyone within the southern region of Florida, especially since sports in the United States have been a part of the culture for so long. The magazine currently restricts its viewership to just Sarasota since the magazine is called 'Sota Sports'. This is planned to change in the near future.
