Distribution Research

The traditional method for distributing a magazine seems to be the most successful one for publishers. This method is sending physical copies to different locations so that it can be purchased. Typically, a mass amount of the single edition of a magazine are printed and then sent to various venders, whether it be a grocery store or at a convenience store. They are sold by edition, whether it be weekly or monthly. They can normally be found at checkouts, which male the customer more likely to buy it since it is a last minute buy and the cover will appeal to them because they pop out.

Another way magazines are distributed is straight to their doorsteps. People can subscribe to the publisher and have the magazines mailed to their homes, or wherever they please. This is typically how magazines are purchased because the subscriber loves receiving a magazine. There is an incomparable feeling one gets when they get their and on a new magazine, which is why physical copies of magazines are still successful.
For our magazine, our main target audience is going to be high school students. In order to get their attention and have them actually purchase the magazine, we will have to go out of the traditional method for distributing magazines. With the help of South Florida Premium Distribution, we can have copies of our magazine publishes, printed, and sent to various selling locations. Ads will make up the majority of the expenses for this magazine, which will allow us to sell editions of 'SoFlo Sports' for a cheaper price. In order to get word out about the magazine, we could attend high school sports events and pep rallies and either sell or give out free copies of the magazine. Word will spread about the magazine once friends of those featured in the magazine see them and then want tell them and other about it. Overall, this is the best method for distribution of the magazine.

Their magazine gains a lot of attention since they also own one of the largest sports broadcasting channels in the United States and in other foreign countries. They feature a variety of sports, some unknown or not as popular sports such as rugby. This widens the spectrum of viewers immensely, since magazines such as Sports Illustrated does not feature sports such as rugby or cricket. The magazine has typical features that would attract your younger audience, such as featuring current top players within different sports. They also have sponsored athletic complexes at places such as the ESPN World of Sports near Disney World in Orlando Florida. This means that who ever passes the sign, now is aware of the brand itself. This is how they gain majority of their exposure for the magazine and is overall a good tactic.

Having previous experience with Adobe programs, such as Photoshop, helped make the process an easier task, but I had to learn some new techniques in order to fit the conventions of other sports magazines. For instance, learning to justify text and place them in a certain layout that fits that of a magazine. Or, learning to export certain at certain resolutions so that the magazine is of high quality. I had to learn to work with the group to take everyone's ideas and come up with an overall plan that would incorporate everything we had come up with. Also, learning to work as a journalist. The process of creating an article and learning to gather information so I could write about my topic was new to m...
