Sports Magazine has a more restricted target audience. This is because their main feature is always a popular European sport. They mostly feature soccer and rugby, which may not be as appealing to people in say the United States. However, this doesn't change their success, since soccer is the most watch sport in the world.
They do not use any other special tactics, only the basic ones such as players who are in their primes and are doing well on the cover. They also have a very distinguishable cover style that is almost comparable to that of a fashion magazine. This may appeal to other audience members. However, it does not seem to be intentional, only trying to differ from other sports magazines.
