Creative Critical Reflection #2 Draft

Our product plans to engage with our audience by keeping them up to date with recent sports news. Sports are one of the most popular, celebrated, long-lasting traditions within the United States. By informing our audience of the latest sports news, this will want them to keep up with each publication. Then by having the information as local, the makes locals want to read about what is happening the southern Florida, since it's their home. Also, including a featured player on the cover engages with the audience. Especially, within schools, this makes teenagers want to engage more with school athletics when they have a star athlete feature on the covers of magazines. Some other parts of the magazine that some people may not notice aids in making the reader engage is the design of the text. The text was intentionally made to stand out with the beveled effect and drop shadow, which draws the readers eyes directly to it. Also, a specific color palate was used so that the entire magazine would fit together and not throw anyone off by having a wide range of colors being thrown at them. This makes the magazine more appealing, resulting in an engaged reader. For our magazine, our main target audience is going to be high school students. In order to get their attention and have them actually purchase the magazine, we will have to go out of the traditional method for distributing magazines. With the help of South Florida Premium Distribution, we can have copies of our magazine publishes, printed, and sent to various selling locations. Ads will make up the majority of the expenses for this magazine, which will allow us to sell editions of 'SoFlo Sports' for a cheaper price. In order to get word out about the magazine, we could attend high school sports events and pep rallies and either sell or give out free copies of the magazine. Word will spread about the magazine once friends of those featured in the magazine see them and then want tell them and other about it. Overall, this is the best method for distribution of the magazine.

Final Submission

The only change within the magazine were a few grammatical errors and an addition to the cover. The cover now has an issue date, "December, 2018." This was added to keep some similarities between our magazines.

Target Audience Research

ESPN the magazine, has is one of the top competitors with sports magazines. They are at the top of the game alongside Sports Illustrated. Their magazine gains a lot of attention since they also own one of the largest sports broadcasting channels in the United States and in other foreign countries. They feature a variety of sports, some unknown or not as popular sports such as rugby. This widens the spectrum of viewers immensely, since magazines such as Sports Illustrated does not feature sports such as rugby or cricket. The magazine has typical features that would attract your younger audience, such as featuring current top players within different sports. They also have sponsored athletic complexes at places such as the ESPN World of Sports near Disney World in Orlando Florida. This means that who ever passes the sign, now is aware of the brand itself. This is how they gain majority of their exposure for the magazine and is overall a good tactic.

Feedback/Revisions

Overall, the feedback was good. There were minor issues with the magazine such as some white space, lack of photo variety, and needing to justify the text. For the magazine, the plan is to add photos in the table of contents of different sports such as basketball or other sports in general. Also, the pages as a whole may need to be redone, but maintain the exact same design. This is because in the process of making the magazine, the pages were exported at different resolutions, making some pages have a lower quality look than the others. The cover needs more text or better use of space since there is a large gap in the middle, so that page will be edited. Another important change that may occur is a change in the title. The magazine is targeting specifically one school, which does not open the viewing to many people other than those who attend Sarasota High School. In order to make the magazine target a larger audience, the title may be changed to 'SoFlo Sports' in order ...
