Digital Distribution Research

The conventional method for the digital distribution of magazine typically consists of just posting the magazine on the publisher's website.  They are released the day the physical edition of the magazine is released. A subscription must be purchased, just as you would with a physical magazine. However, digital versions typically are cheaper since they do not require printing and use of paper. Online versions also are forever lasting, unless obviously they are removed by the publisher. Although digital magazines seem ideal, they seem to still be less successful than physical magazines when it comes to attracting viewers. Physical copies are also overall more appealing to customers because of the satisfaction a viewer seems to get when they receive a copy of it. These online magazines are advertised on websites, typically with banners or popup videos. An example of a successful digital magazine distributor is Sports Illustrated. Sports Illustrated is more renown for their physical copies. They currently only offer a two or one year subscription to their physical magazine which gives them instant access to the online versions of the editions which will be sent to their customer's home. The two year costs 49 dollars while the one year costs 39 dollars. Purchase of either subscriptions also includes a free NFL t-shirt and jacket which is an incentive for the customer to purchase either.

They also have a website that posts individual articles which is open for anyone in the public to see. Live scores for sports games can also be found, which may bring in some traffic for their website. The Sports Illustrated website includes all things sports, such as tickets, a merchandise store, highlights, a sports fanatic's dream.

Final Submission

The only change within the magazine were a few grammatical errors and an addition to the cover. The cover now has an issue date, "December, 2018." This was added to keep some similarities between our magazines.

Target Audience Research

ESPN the magazine, has is one of the top competitors with sports magazines. They are at the top of the game alongside Sports Illustrated. Their magazine gains a lot of attention since they also own one of the largest sports broadcasting channels in the United States and in other foreign countries. They feature a variety of sports, some unknown or not as popular sports such as rugby. This widens the spectrum of viewers immensely, since magazines such as Sports Illustrated does not feature sports such as rugby or cricket. The magazine has typical features that would attract your younger audience, such as featuring current top players within different sports. They also have sponsored athletic complexes at places such as the ESPN World of Sports near Disney World in Orlando Florida. This means that who ever passes the sign, now is aware of the brand itself. This is how they gain majority of their exposure for the magazine and is overall a good tactic.

Feedback/Revisions

Overall, the feedback was good. There were minor issues with the magazine such as some white space, lack of photo variety, and needing to justify the text. For the magazine, the plan is to add photos in the table of contents of different sports such as basketball or other sports in general. Also, the pages as a whole may need to be redone, but maintain the exact same design. This is because in the process of making the magazine, the pages were exported at different resolutions, making some pages have a lower quality look than the others. The cover needs more text or better use of space since there is a large gap in the middle, so that page will be edited. Another important change that may occur is a change in the title. The magazine is targeting specifically one school, which does not open the viewing to many people other than those who attend Sarasota High School. In order to make the magazine target a larger audience, the title may be changed to 'SoFlo Sports' in order ...
