Magazine Project Research

Magazine 3: Men's Health The cover of the magazine utilizes the subject in the cover photo, Michael Dubree. Like most other magazines, the subject of the cover photo interacts with the title by being in front of the text, but the text still remains in front of the background. Rough textures are used for the cover to give off a masculine feel for the magazine, since it is Men's Health. The articles in the magazine all deal with men's health, hence the name of the magazine, Men's health. There are a lot of articles about nutrition or even exercise, which are all meant to help men improve their physical and mental health. Also, there is even articles about relationship advice. These all appear throughout all sections of the magazine. Advertisements in this magazine are of no relation to the magazine. There are ads about beer, coffee, and even beef jerky. These occur throughout various parts of the magazine on their own, separate pages. In the table of contents, are pictu

Magazine 2: Sports Illustrated The cover utilizes the space quite well on the cover itself quite well. The title, white and bold, interacts with the cover photo of Dwight Howard sitting by going behind his torso but remaining in front of the background. There is also a quote on the cover that has a shadow behind the letters, which helps to make it seem more realistic and as if it is part of the photo, even though it was clearly edited onto the cover. The articles in this magazine consist of different sports articles that occur throughout the entire magazine. There are advertisements throughout the magazine are of no relation to sports, a lot of them are actually surprising. For instance, there is an advertisement for cigarettes which are considerably bad for your health. Yet, there is an article about ranking athletes that are in the best shape. There are some advertisements about hygiene which may be because of the articles that are done about certain athletes may be sponsored by th

Magazine 1: Rowing Magazine The cover utilizes majority of the upper and lower parts in order to fit the cover photo within the center. This makes the focus of the cover the rowing celebrating, whose fist is also interacting with the text by covering part of the words in the title. The font fits the rowing theme of the magazine, since it is a sports- like font that you may find on a jersey or popular sports brand name. It is also italicized which gives of a feeling of movement, like the rowers speeding through the water. The color of the font also goes along with the color of the feature's logo, the World Rowing Tournament 2017. The articles in this magazine don't seem to appear until the middle. It is packed with all kinds of advertisements, centered around rowing. The first article, which is written by the editor, is not found until the 14th page of the magazine. But, once you reach the articles towards the middle of the magazine, there is a lot of articles about the races

Project Selection - My Decision

I have chosen to do a magazine for my project. I made this my selection because I believe that my skill set applies more to this than making a film. I have experience in photography which is a major factor in creating a magazine. The magazine is going to be based on athletes in high school. The genre of the magazine would be sports. I would work in a group so I could receive opinions about my work from my colleagues. I plan to work with Kate, Kelly, and Ella. Everyone on the team is an athlete, which will be an insight into the world of sports. This also means that they can talk to their fellow teammates about topics and interview them for the magazine.

Project Selection - Film

The process of making a film consists of many jobs and a variety of different skills. This is most likely suitable for a team of people, however I am still interested in the production aspect of making a film. The whole process of filming, putting the actors behind the camera and shooting, interests me the most about making a film. I have experience with using cameras which may be beneficial for creating a film. I am familiar with changing the settings that are compliment the scene that is being shot. Also, I have experience with post production, editing the shots and audio. I am familiar with quite a few editing programs such as Adobe After Effects and Premier Pro. I would struggle with creating a story board. I am better at creating something on the spot rather than planning it out.

Project Selection - Magazine

Print journalism is an extensive process that consists of various different components in order to create the final product. I am interested in the interviewing aspect of print journalism. I find gathering information and getting to meet new people and hear what they have to say intriguing. I also find the process of building the magazine itself interesting. After taking time and effort into gathering information, taking pictures, and putting them together for a final product gives feeling of satisfaction. I believe that I can bring photography skills to the table. This would make the magazine more suitable for me because photos are such a large component of magazine's. I also have experience with graphic design software, which should make this selection easier for me. However, I do struggle with writing and coming up with content to talk about. This will be the most challenging factor for me in creating a magazine.
